Let’s be honest. Specs and artwork aren’t glamorous. Nobody brags about completing a QAS or getting a font size legally compliant.
But without people like you, things go very wrong, very quickly. Customers complain, retailers fine, and suddenly everyone’s pointing fingers.
That’s why this role exists.
We’re looking for someone who knows their way around specs systems, food labelling law, and the joy that is retailer codes of practice. Someone who can juggle multiple projects, keep artwork compliant, and still have enough patience left to support and develop a junior Technologist.
Yes, this is a senior role – but don’t worry, we’re not asking you to carry the weight of the world. You’ll have a manager who’s got your back, a team around you, and the satisfaction of knowing that your work actually makes launches happen.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
Writing and maintaining product specs for major retailers and foodservice customers.
Co-managing the artwork process so everything is legally watertight and customer-friendly.
Being the go-to person for spec and artwork queries (internally and externally).
Managing a Technologist – supporting, guiding, and occasionally giving them a reality check.
Keeping projects on track with critical paths (and nudging people when they’re not).
Suggesting better ways of doing things, instead of just moaning about the current way.
What we need from you:
Proper hands-on experience with spec and artwork systems.
A solid grasp of UK food labelling law (and the ability to explain it to people who glaze over at the detail).
A background in food manufacturing – from concept through to launch.
Good communication skills – because this role sits between NPD, Technical, Process, and the customer.
The ability to prioritise when ten people shout “urgent” at you.
