These lot are growing at a ridiculously fast pace! The investment is there, the vision is there, the only thing missing is a strategic Head of Procurement/Senior Business Manager/Procurement Director who can come and take over the Procurement function for the site.
Tough to say what a typical day will look like but we’ll give it a go!
You arrive at the site one of the days that works for you (flexible working is a big tick with this place), you’ll enter the building and be greeted by a mixture of smiles, noise and the clattering of clipboards belonging to the Project team that are responsible for extending the size of Production six-fold! There’s not a tie in sight, only casually dressed colleagues embracing the chaos and getting the job done.
You’ll make your way to your desk, it’s a bright open plan office so it’s easy to chat to your colleagues about their weekends and what the plan is for the day. At your bank of desks will be the Buying team, at this point there’s only 2 of them but they’re personable, passionate and looking for a good leader. Between the 3 of you you’ll be responsible for the Procurement of everything that comes to the site – Ingredients, packaging and sundry items. The utmost focus will be on the consistency of supply being secured at the right cost. The ability for you to take a step back from what’s right in front of you will be crucial. The longer-term view of the supply chain and any risks will make a big part of your role as you make sure there are robust commercial agreements in place with key contingencies should anything not go to plan…Not just members of the team but everyone across the organisation will look at you as the “Procurement person”! This is a strategic role and you’ll operate with the SLT and Directors on scaling and levelling up the function from the key fronts of your people, process and technology.

I have to be clear, if you’re not operating in Procurement, within food, and managing a team at present then this won’t be right. We need people who are used to managing large spend across various categories.
